Intel enters the graphics game with its first discrete DG1 GPU
GPU stands for Graphical Processing Unit which is a graphical computing unit inside computers, laptops, mobile and workstations along with CPU which stands for Central Processing Unit.
GPU does all graphical processing like rendering, display of pixels, and all work related to Graphics.
Their highly parallel structure makes them more efficient than general-purpose central processing units (CPUs) for algorithms that process large blocks of data in parallel. In a personal computer, a GPU may be present on a video card or embedded on a motherboard. In some CPUs, they are embedded in the CPU.
Intel has announced its first discrete GPU at CES 2020. The chipmaker has announced that its GPU code is coded as "DG1", a first major step towards future computing ambitions of the company. The company also showed a live demo of Destiny 2 on the new GPU.The DG1 is based on the Xe architecture, which also powers integrated graphics on the upcoming 10nm Tiger Lake chips. Intel has already announced that Xe Graphics on Tiger Lake will deliver 2x performance compared to previous-generation chips. It also means that the DG1 GPU will give more boost than Tiger Lake. In addition, Intel did not provide any specific description of DG1.
It is expected that the initial DG1 will be a simpler discrete version of integrated graphics that will be shipped with Tiger Lake. It is possible that Intel will leverage its synchronized CPU / GPU solution by enabling ill-integrated graphics and discrete graphics to provide twice as much graphics power.Lack of discrete cards has been a major problem for Intel. The company had to work closely with a rival firm, AMD, to create a hybrid line of Core i5 GPUs. The company did not comment on AMD's Ryzen 4000 APU announcement. The main AI also focused on video-encoding enhancements. Intel has not clarified when it will launch DG1.
Intel has won everyone at CES 2020 with a prototype of an all-new PC. The Horseshoe Bend Factor concept device has been completely designed from the consumer perspective. The cool folding concept will probably give rise to a new laptop design language.
