Soon, using phone for maps while driving may not be an offence | India News NEW DELHI: Use of mobile phone “solely for navigation” while driving won’t attract fine, the road transport ministry has proposed in an amendment to the Motor Vehicle (Driving) Regulations. The ministry has also proposed another change, giving option of carrying documents in “physical or electronic form” instead of the original ones. Mobile phones will be allowed with a rider that device doesn’t disturb the driver’s concentration. Currently, the law prohibits use of “any hand-held mobile phone or other communication device” while driving. It also says that no trainer or supervisor shall use a mobile phone or other communication device while training or supervising a learner driver. Sources said the changes are being made considering that in most cases, drivers are using mobile phones for navigation .
