AFSPA(Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act) extended for 6 months in Nagaland The Central Government has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in Nagaland for 6 months declaring Nagaland as a disturbed area. Now AFSPA will remain in force till the end of July 2020 in Nagaland. Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) AFSPA was implemented in 1958, it is used in areas declared as disturbed. By this act, due to a dispute between religious, racial, linguistic and communities in an area, it can be declared as disturbed by the state or central government. Declaration of Disturbed Area: Section 3 of this Act empowers the Governor of a State or Union Territory to issue a notification in Gazette in India, after which the Center has the power to send armed forces to assist civilians.
